EGGS FACT AND MYTH

The egg lobby is not as wealthy as the red meat lobby, eggs aren't all that high in 'bad' cholestrol and they are also high in Lecithin, a cholesteral inhibitor. Free-range eggs will actually help you lower your blood lipds. They are also nature's nearly perfect food, eat more eggs, really!

(1)The truth about eggs
Foods high in cholesterol are bad for the heart. Eggs are high in cholesterol. Therefore, eggs are bad for the heart.

Myth: Eggs are high in cholesterol.
Fact: Not necessarily, not all eggs are high in cholesterol, only battery raised chicken eggs are high in cholesterol.

(1)NUTRIENTS IN AN EGG
Eggs are an excellent nutrient-dense food that packs six grams of protein, a bit of vitamin B-12, vitamin E, riboflavin, folic acid, calcium, zinc, iron, and essential fatty acids into a mere 75 calories. Second to the lactalbumin protein in human milk, eggs have the highest quality protein of any food. In addition to being good for the body, eggs can be prepared in a variety of tasty ways.

The ingredients in eggs are glutathione builders, glutathione being an essential part of the Liver functioning.

(2) free-range eggs are rich in fat-soluble vitamins A,D,E, K, cysteine and other amino acids, and Lecithin [a cholesterol inhibitor.] This means that rather than being a danger to people’s blood lipid troubles eggs actually help LOWER cholesterol.

Myth: eggs are high in fats.
(2) Free-range eggs are high in omega 3 and low in omega-6 essential fatty acids.

One egg provides about 6.25 grams of protein, or about 10% of daily protein needs. Half of the protein in an egg comes from the egg white, while the other half from the egg yolk. In fact, egg protein is of such high quality that it is used as the standard by which other proteins are compared. Eggs have a biological value (efficacy with which protein is used for growth) of 93.7%. Comparable values are 84.5% for milk, 76% for fish, and 74.3% for beef.

The egg is, therefore, an excellent source of protein and one of the best proteins money can buy.

Myth: eggs, especially raw eggs are dangerous, have a high risk of salmonella.
Fat: (4)According to Dr. Mercola and The food network the risk of salmonella from raw eggs, is such that most people have a better chance of winning the lottery than contracting salmonella from eggs from healthy chickens, This may come as a shock to you but it is best not to cook your eggs. This helps preserve many of the highly perishable nutrients such as lutein, and zeaxanthin, which are powerful prevention elements of the most common cause of blindness, age related macular degeneration. This also means there is no sense in taking supplements for these incredible antioxidants when you get the nutrients for free from eggs.
