KILLER COLDS

I gotta tell you I was completely blindsided. I went to a lovely senior dinner [nope, I'm not a senior yet but they gave me special dispensation-tee he]and I caught a cold. I haven't been sick since I started my diet back last January. I got to thinking I was bullet-proof. I'm here to tell you I haven't had any bullets but I have managed to catch a doozey of a cold. Everyone I talked to said this cold they had just lasted and lasted, they were just awfully sick and my husband mentioned a 'killer' cold* going around. Well no grass goes on me, I had taken a cold remedy years ago when someone told me to take 8000, [or was it 8,500? 85,000 mg of Vitamin C with milk] Even back then I wasn't really sure of the dosage so I took about , oh a million Vitamin tablets and a quart of milk. Within a very short time I had a terrific case of the trots culminating in----NO MORE COLD!!!

I looked it up on the net and found this cure:
(1)
Cold/Flu Cure #1: 8 g every 20 minutes

At first sign of cold or flu, begin taking at least 8 g (8000 mg) of vitamin C as ascorbic acid every twenty minutes for 3 to 4 hours until bowel tolerance, and then smaller dosages of 2-4 g every 4-6 hours for ten days to prevent recurrence.

The 'trick' is achieving almost I.V. blood serum levels by mouth as described in the Hickey/Roberts book ASCORBATE: The Science of Vitamin C. Begin protocol at the first sign of a runny nose, tickle in the throat, etc. If not caught at the beginning, the infection can't be stopped, but you may lessen its severity and duration.

OK, so I ran off to the drugstore and bought some Vitamin C WITH rose hips, that means the Bioflavonoids were part of it, Rutin, and Herperidins, This way the Vitamin C is complete. I immediately took 8 1000 mg tablets with 8oz. of milk, [the milk soften the blow of the ascorbic acid to the stomach. In 20 minutes I'll take 8 more. Then I will keep it up until I've had 80,000 or more milligrams, I'll keep you posted. Actually I started being sick yesterday but didn't remember this cure until I was so miserable today and since hearing about the new 'Killer' cold and I thought back to all the folks I'd prayed for who said they were sick for so long and felt so bad, I knew I had to do something. Oh and I'm dressed warmly and letting myself just get all sweaty from fever to kill off the germies too. I hate being hot so this will be the hard thing.

Killer Cold Virus Appears in U.S.
10 Deaths From Outbreaks in 4 States as Ad14 Cold Virus Becomes More Common
By Daniel J. DeNoon
WebMD Medical NewsReviewed by Louise Chang, MDNov. 15, 2007 -- A virulent new form of an old cold virus is spreading in the U.S., causing severe pneumonia and death even in healthy adults.

The virus is adenovirus type 14 or Ad14. Since May 2006, when it killed a 12-day-old girl in New York City, there have been 10 deaths among 141 confirmed cases. Except for the infant girl, the cases came in outbreaks in Oregon, Washington, and Texas.

Different adenovirus strains have caused outbreaks in the past. But this seems to be a particularly "challenging" virus, says CDC epidemic intelligence officer John Su, MD, PhD.

"This particular [adenovirus] is unusual in that it can cause very severe illness in healthy young adults with no other medical condition. That is why this adenovirus stands out from the crowd," Su tells WebMD.

I WANT TO SAY RIGHT HERE I AM NOT ADVOCATING ANYTHING HERE, I'M JUST TELLING PEOPLE WHAT I DO. If you are sick; dial 911 and go see your medical professunul[sic]...blah,blah,blah.

Remember one thing, however your Medical professional will tell you that all colds will last 7-10 days at least. Also they have no helpful recourse for the 'Killer' cold. Well antibiotics..... Please refer to my previous blogs on those, [oy vey].

Also, I checked on those cold cures you see on TV the occo-something and Vi-something, I wasn't impressed with either, the occo-thingy is a homeopathic for symptomatic relief [HEY,I WANT MINE GONE, NOT ANOTHER COVER-UP, THANK YOU]

The Vi-thingy was a conglomeration of drugs [tylenol?] and oh yes! sugar, and it just promised to shorten the duration of the cold, Gee thanks.

So, we bought the vitamin C, and Whole milk, I'm taking my third round now.
Before going to the drugstore I was so tired /I could barely move, I'd had a rough night and was so tired I didn't make it to church today. I drank a big cup of green tea, added a tablespoon of honey and a generous squirt of lemon, and felt almost energetic. That really helped me to get my weary backside out the door to get to the store.

A few words about Vitamin C from the eminent Linus Pauling:
(3)
Vitamin C and the Common Cold
In 1970, Pauling announced in Vitamin C and the Common Cold that taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C daily will reduce the incidence of colds by 45% for most people but that some people need much larger amounts [1]. (The RDA for vitamin C is 60 mg.) The 1976 revision of the book, retitled Vitamin C, the Common Cold and the Flu, suggested even higher dosages [2]. A third book, Vitamin C and Cancer (1979) claims that high doses of vitamin C may be effective against cancer. Yet another book, How to Feel Better and Live Longer (1986), stated that megadoses of vitamins "can improve your general health . . . to increase your enjoyment of life and can help in controlling heart disease, cancer, and other diseases and in slowing down the process of aging." [3] Pauling himself reportedly took at least 12,000 mg daily and raised the amount to 40,000 mg if symptoms of a cold appear [4]. In 1993, after undergoing radiation therapy for prostate cancer, Pauling said that vitamin C had delayed the cancer's onset for twenty years. This was not a testable claim. He died of the disease in August 1994.

This is what is considered to be the "darkside" of his career and the man himself. Alternative medicine/healthy eating was also indicted when Adele Davis died. But everyone dies, I maintain that many people who are convinced that alternative medicine, and wholesome eating, is for them because of a failure of the medical community to help them and a revelation that our food supply is NOT healthy; and they probably lengthened their lives by quite a bit by switching to natural methods of living.

~~~digression~~~
To put things into proportion:
Adele Davis died at age 70, of bone cancer. There were some things she taught that are not accepted today, but there are many more that are.
See, the powers-that-be can take a natural substance like tryptophan off the market because one[1] source came from a foreign country that was suspect, the problem was later fixed, but the FDA maintained that it was still unsafe and banned it temporarily. Now Tryptophan really works it helps one sleep without side effects, but Ambien had a huge lobby in congress and got their competition banned. Paxil, Celebrex, HRT, Ambien, and Vioxx, are still being prescribed after dozens and in some cases 100's of people have been damaged or killed by them. I can't count the times I've heard a friend tell me that yes, they are still taking a drug listed as dangerous [pick one], "But my doctor said 'In your case this drug is necessary and the risks are very much overplayed in the media'." I've heard nearly the exact same words from many people. So, it's OK for a drug to kill but not to take a natural product that possibly a few people might have some adverse effects.
Did you know that PCP and LSD were both originally drugs listed as beneficial for medicine, PCP was "the peace pill", and LSD was to help alcoholics and mental patients. Both were touted by the FDA and the medical community as "safe".
~~~~end digression~~~

Vitamin C:
Do High Doses Prevent Colds?

Charles W. Marshall, Ph.D.
(Edited by Stephen Barrett, M.D)

Few things have stirred the imagination and hopes of the public in matters of nutrition or vexed nutrition scientists as much as Linus Pauling's 1970 book, Vitamin C and the Common Cold. [1] The book's main claim was that taking 1 gram (1,000 mg) of vitamin C daily would reduce the incidence of colds by 45% for most people, but that some persons might need much larger amounts. It recommended that if symptoms of a cold do start, you should take 500 or 1,000 mg every hour for several hours -- or 4 to 10 grams daily if symptoms don't disappear with smaller amounts. Without question, publication of this book, combined with Pauling's reputation as a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, has made vitamin C a best seller. When his theory was announced, millions of Americans rushed to try it for themselves. The second edition of the book, issued in 1976 as Vitamin C, the Common Cold and the Flu, suggested even higher dosages [2].

Vitamin C and the Common Cold also suggested that most people need a daily vitamin C intake of 2,300 mg or more for "optimum" health and to meet stresses, including infections. In a subsequent book, How to Live Longer and Feel Better, Pauling stated that individual biochemical variability is so great that optimum intake may may be as great as from 250 mg to 20 grams or more per day [3].

Many concerned persons have wondered whether Pauling's advice was prudent, and millions have experimented upon themselves to see whether they could tell. Pauling himself reportedly took 12,000 mg daily and raised it to 40,000 mg when symptoms of a cold appeared! [4] Pauling apparently adapted to such dosage, but most people would suffer chronic diarrhea and the risk of kidney stones. Also, the vast majority of reputable medical and nutritional scientists strongly disagree with him.

It's one of those things we have to decide for ourselves about. I do not like fruits and it's hard to eat it, but I do eat an apple a day and this is part of the reason I felt bullet-proof, but as LP said, if you are still getting colds, take more vitamin C.

OK, I've taken 60,000 milligrams, I stepped up the dosage a bit, I've never been noted for my patience. I do feel better, but that can be due to the fact that one always feels worse in the AM. I'm just not one for lying down and being miserable I'd prefer staying busy and not thinking about being sick. Sooooo, I'm going to get some housecleaning done, do some serioius sweating this crud right outta me and I'll let you all know tomorrow how well my cure does.

Keith the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several
hundred young layers (hens), called 'pullets,' and eight or ten roosters,
whose job was to fertilize the eggs.

The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into the
soup pot and was replaced.

That took an awful lot of his time so he bought a set of tiny bells and
attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone so Keith
could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now he could sit
on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the
bells.

The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch, and a very fine specimen he
was, too. But on this particular morning Keith noticed old Butch's bell
hadn' t rung at all!

Keith went to investigate. The other roosters were chasing pullets,
bells-a-ringing. The pullet, hearing the roosters coming , would run for
cover. But to Farmer Keith's amazement, Butch had his bell in his beak, so
it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the
next one. Keith was so proud of Butch, he entered him in the Boone County
Fair and Butch became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The Result:
The judges not only awarded Butch the 'No-Bell Piece Prize' but they also
awarded him the 'Pulletsurprise' as well.

An elderly gentleman.. had serious hearing problems for a number of years. He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%.
The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."
The gentleman replied, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet.
I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will three times!"

~~~
Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the other and says: "Slim, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?"
Slim says, "I feel just like a newborn baby."
"Really !? Like a new born baby!?"
"Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my pants."
~~~

Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital.
After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
"I don't know," he said. "She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown."
~~~
Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. "Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?" he asks. "Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?"
"Sure."
"Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?" she asks.
"No, I can remember it."
"Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so's not to forget it?"
He says, "I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."
"I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?" she asks.
Irritated, he says, "I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!"
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment.
"Where's my toast?"
SUPERBUGS REVISITED, HOW TO COPE
Have you ever heard, "This product will kill 99% of all germs....[or even 99.9%?]. How about: "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." Friedrich Nietzsche. It's the only time I agreed with anything Nietzsche said. Think about it. If those germs that were in the 1% that were not killed by whatever noxious chemical they were subjected to; what do you suppose happens to them? Answer: they get stronger!!!!!
Did you know our own immune systems work that way too? We are exposed to a small amount of germs while we are in a healthy state and our bodies get stronger, they fight off that disease and become immune to it.
Did you ever wonder why Mexican Nationals can safely eat fresh veggies and drink the water in Mexico when if we do; we get sick? They have developed immunites to the local hazards.
We try to live in a safe world, encompassing ourselves round about with cleansers, and disease killers and fences and towers made of chemicals and yes, for a time they do protect us. But the long term effects are that we become weaker, we are innundated by these chemicals that not only circumvent our immune systems and don't allow our bodies do the work they were intended to do, but also weaken us by filling us up with the hazardous soup we have surrounded our little worlds with.
Now we have created little monsters we are not only NOT immune to but our little chemical strongholds aren't powerful enough to deal with.....These little monsters eat away at our flesh and kill us slowly. And I got a newsflash for you, it's not just in the Hospital you can contract this disease, you can get it at home. My brother had it on his foot when he was in his teens, 40 years ago, so this is not new, He recovered but the elderly and small unhealthy children don't survive. It's not a particularily pleasant way to go, there is great pain as that infection races through the blood stream unchecked. Did I hear you say it's better now that we lve in an age where modern medicine can cure so many diseases? Well an infection can take you out just like you were living in 1330 and your neighbors are all dying of the plague. Why do I say this? Because SA and MRSA are the plague now.
from an email by Dr. Nan Fuchs:
Astounding. That's how one epidemiologist described a study that recently received quite a bit of media attention. She could have added, "terrifying," because according to this new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research, your chances of falling prey to an unusually aggressive and life-threatening bacterium are much higher than previously thought.
But after the news anchors shared this grim report, they immediately moved on to political news, traffic, weather, etc., leaving many viewers to wonder –
How do I protect myself?
I'm glad you asked.
As villains go, it doesn't have a very catchy name, but methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a villainous bacterium – resistant to most antibiotics, easily transmitted by casual contact, and responsible for as much as 20 percent of all infections picked up in hospitals and other health care facilities.
Even worse, MRSA is deadly. And while this has been known for many years, the new CDC study indicates that this bacterium may be twice as deadly as previously thought.
From July 2004 through the end of 2005, researchers tracked statistics collected from nine U.S. health care centers that participated in a special bacterial surveillance program. Extrapolating the data, researchers estimated that more than 94,000 patients were infected with invasive MRSA during the study period, and 85 percent of the infections were associated with health care treatment.
Well over 18,500 of the infected patients died.
Some hospitals test incoming patients for MSRA and then isolate infected patients. This is somewhat controversial because sequestered patients may not receive the same level of care as uninfected patients. While that issue is open to debate, the New York Times reports that a hospital system in Chicago has cut the rate of MSRA infections by 60 percent since screening began in 2005.
Which brings us to the question: What can you do to reduce your risk of infection during a planned hospital stay?
You can begin by choosing a hospital with a high safety rating. The Department of Health and Human Services web site (hospitalcompare.hhs.gov) provides an assessment of the level of care at participating hospitals. You can easily search the database by entering a hospital name, zip code, city, county, or state.
Another similar web site (healthgrades.com) collects mortality data on more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals. You can also search for information about individual physicians and nursing homes on this site.
Once you've chosen a top rated hospital, what steps can you take to personally prepare yourself for a hospital stay? When I put this question to HSI Panelist Allan Spreen, M.D., he began and ended his comments with vitamin C.
Dr. Spreen: "I'd be taking vitamin C by the grams (to bowel tolerance then just below), but right before surgery you'd have to cut back to keep from hindering the anesthesia (which is another toxin, remember). I'd also be taking beta-glucan as an immune stimulant.
"For strict bactericidal activity I'd be doing olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract (not grape seed, though I like it too), and colloidal silver. In other words, I'd be pulling out all the stops. If I had a reasonable doc I'd be getting vitamin C intravenously post-op – then the MRSA wouldn't be a factor. Yep, vitamin C in high enough doses kills ALL invading bugs. Fred Klenner, MD, proved that back in the 40's (but who's listening?)."
I take a great anti-germ, bacteria, viral,and fungal product:CellPower™ a natural germ killer, not one to impower superbugs. It also resists fungal infections like Candida Albacans
and also I'm using:
One sunny day in 2008, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench.
He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."
The Marine replied, "Sir, Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here."
The old man said, "Okay," and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton".
The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here."
The man thanked him and again walked away . . .
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and Said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to Speak to Mrs. Clinton. I've told you already several times that Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here. Don't you understand?"
The old man answered, "Oh, I understand you fine, I just love hearing your answer!"
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow."
SUPERBUGS? WHY AND HOW TO COMBAT THEM
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics. These antibiotics include methicillin and other more common antibiotics such as oxacillin, penicillin and amoxicillin.
In Virginia an entire school has closed down due to a MRSA outbreak there.
They follow up with these admonitions:
(1)
1-Keep hands clean by washing thoroughly with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
2-Keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered with a bandage until healed.
3-Avoid contact with other people's wounds or bandages.
4-Avoid sharing personal items such as towels or razors.
(2)
But while rates of hospital-acquired MRSA infections have been relatively stable in recent years, community acquired infections have been rising steadily in the state and across the country.
Connecticut reported 952 cases of MRSA infections in 2005, but Hadler said the actual number could be much higher because many cases are not particularly serious.
In fact, MRSA infections are so common in the community now that most doctors who see such infections don't bother treating patients with the class of antibiotics that include methicillin, said Dr. Kevin Dieckhaus, chief of infectious diseases at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
The bacteria often spread through contact with pus-filled boils. In schools, athletes are often susceptible to infection....Simple hygiene, such as washing hands, can help stop the spread of the infection.
I don't believe this is new, I remember my brother got this antibiotic resistant Staph infection way back in the early 1960's.
How did this happen? Where did it come from?
(3)
When penicillin became widely available during the second world war, it was a medical miracle, rapidly vanquishing the biggest wartime killer--infected wounds. Discovered initially by a French medical student, Ernest Duchesne, in 1896, and then rediscovered by Scottish physician Alexander Fleming in 1928, the product of the soil mold Penicillium crippled many types of disease-causing bacteria. But just four years after drug companies began mass-producing penicillin in 1943, microbes began appearing that could resist it.
The first bug to battle penicillin was Staphylococcus aureus. This bacterium is often a harmless passenger in the human body, but it can cause illness, such as pneumonia or toxic shock syndrome, when it overgrows or produces a toxin.
In 1967, another type of penicillin-resistant pneumonia, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and called pneumococcus, surfaced in a remote village in Papua New Guinea. At about the same time, American military personnel in southeast Asia were acquiring penicillin-resistant gonorrhea from prostitutes. By 1976, when the soldiers had come home, they brought the new strain of gonorrhea with them, and physicians had to find new drugs to treat it. In 1983, a hospital-acquired intestinal infection caused by the bacterium Enterococcus faecium joined the list of bugs that outwit penicillin.
Antibiotic resistance spreads fast. Between 1979 and 1987, for example, only 0.02 percent of pneumococcus strains infecting a large number of patients surveyed by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were penicillin-resistant. CDC's survey included 13 hospitals in 12 states. Today, 6.6 percent of pneumococcus strains are resistant, according to a report in the June 15, 1994, Journal of the American Medical Association by Robert F. Breiman, M.D., and colleagues at CDC. The agency also reports that in 1992, 13,300 hospital patients died of bacterial infections that were resistant to antibiotic treatment.
People get a prescription for antibiotics; take a day's worth or so, then store the rest for who knows what, but the bugs would just be weakened by the shortened dose. Then they would lie dormant in the now healthier body awaiting the next time that body or another it comes in contact with to be weakened enough to manifest it's evil intent. The first person then gives that prescription to the second one who feels under the weather and those germs are flushed but still alive because this time the antibiotic is not fresh nor is it a full dose. And so on and so on. The bacteria thus treated becomes stronger and more able to withstand the antibiotics normally given against it. Pretty soon people who get sick are unable to get well, But increasingly I read there is other factors at work here.
Our society has a fixation to be squeaky clean, dirt is to be avoided and scrubbed off with abrasive and chemical soaps.
A bit of "dirt" can be beneficial for health but the beneficial ones are killed off by the constant use of antibiotics. One such friendly bacteria in our intestines helps to digest our foods properly and without them another takes it's place; a not-at-all-friendly flora called Candida Albacans, which causes a condition called Candidiasis. I'm just mentioning this as an aside it's one example there are more. This article is about MRSA.
I've read recently that we are way too quick to hold up hygiene as a holy endeavor, the human body is weakened by it's inability to ward off unfamiliar germs because it hasn't encountered them when it was healthier and hasn't given it's own abilities as infection fighting a chance to create natural immunities. Think about it, the very reason we have t-cells for instance is to kill off any and all opportunistic infectious agents, but first they must encounter them and create an immunity in the body. It's much more efficacious if this is done in a healthy body when the encounter with the infection is minor. Then later when the body is sickly that particular infection can be better tackled by the immunity already there.
I personally do not use soaps, there is way too much in them I do not want soaking into my skin, and many are helpfully antibiotic also, and I don't need that at all. I have read that just rubbing your hands under running water removes most germs, then if I really need it I'll rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide, but usually not, since I'm healthier now I want to develop an ability to ward off infection more naturally. since I quit using soaps I've noticed that my chronically dry hands are normal now. I quit using soaps on my face in my early 30's and people always comment on how young I look. A wetter climate always helps as well. I've already done one blog entry on the dangers to skin with soap on delicate skin:skin care
As to keeping myself from getting sick I use the safe natural infection fighters in
CellPower™ It has bacterial,viral, and fungal killers that won't mess with our natural flora, and also I'm using:
FLAX SEED OIL for my colon, but of course FLAX SEED OIL is also a great source of omega-3 essential fatty acids.
And one each of the four essential minerals each day:
~SELENIUMhelps immune system,fights infection and aids circulation
~MAGNESIUMhelps to relax you, aids stress and muscle relaxing
~CHROMIUMimproves insulin sensitivity, and helps lower blood sugar.
~ZINC every day.
When a woman requested a whole roaster at the market where I work, the butcher didn't let on that the bird he presented her was the last one. "Do you have one that's a little larger?" she asked.
"Of course," said the butcher. He took the roaster behind the counter, away from view, and made a lot of noise rolling it around the ice as if he were searching for just the right chicken. He then showed the same bird to her.
"Better," she said. "Do you have one with a little more meat on it?"
He took the chicken, rolled it in the ice and offered it up a third time.
"Great," the woman said. "I'll take all three."
All my husband wanted was to pay for some batteries, but none of the clerks in the electronics store seemed interested in helping him. "I've got an idea," I said, and pulled a tape measure out of my purse. I stepped over to one of the giant plasma-screen TVs and started to measure it.
Faster than you can say high definition, a young man came running over. "May I help you?" he asked breathlessly.
"Yes," I said. "I'd like to buy these batteries."
It is so rare to be offered a meal on airlines these days that I was surprised to hear the flight attendant ask the man sitting in front of me, "Would you like dinner?"
"What are my choices?" he responded.
"Yes or no," she said.
Lisa, my co-worker at the bus company, needed to send a letter of apology to a customer whose trip was a complete fiasco from start to finish. I reminded her of a similar situation a year earlier, and dug out the letter I'd written then. "All you have to do," I told her, "is change the details, the date and the name."
She looked it over and smiled wryly. "We don't need to change the name."
A little boy was doing a test in his math class. The question was a complicated one, but not for this little genius! The question was: "You live in South Carolina. You have to pay about $60 per month to be able to warm your house. A year later, the cost of warming your house is 6 times as much as it used to cost. What should you do to get out of this conflict?"
The little boy's answer:
You move.
