SOY; HEALTH FOOD OR HAZARD

First~All soy is genetically modified and gm foods are not recognized by the body as nourishment, so it's like a drug, an unnatural substance that causes a reaction in the body [the very definition of a drug].

Second~ soy is not a food product and has a foul taste so it is highly processed as well. Another 'food group' to ignore. The only was you could make it worse is by adding MSG [actually it contains a free glumatic acid similar to MSG in it-a neurotoxin and frequently more is added to soy to make it more palatable] and frying it in trans fats.

3-Soy has high levels of phytoestrogens. You can imagine how those estrogens [the female hormone affects males eating it, and how it wars with their own testosterone].

4-It also is loaded with phytic acid-which reduces assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc causing major growth development problems in children. Early puberty [under age 8 for many] for girls and late or no development of male puberty attributes].

5-Soy formula given to many infants~ under the banner of it being so healthy~ actually causes a myriad of troubles in them, including reduced vitamin D absorption [the cancer preventative vitamin] and lowered resistance due to environmental hazards and makes for sickly children.

6-The processing of Soy also causes formation of toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines and kills off any fragile proteins and enzymes it might have had to make it healthy, but now it's a dead substance at best.

7-Soy also contains high levels of aluminum a definite kidney and nervous system toxin. Aluminum also found in Pickles, table salt, and anti-perspirants has been implicated in Alzheimer's, yes, they say it isn't the cause, but the myelin surrounding the nerves and brain cells are loaded with aluminum in Alzheimer's patients.

** You be the judge, if it's worth it to you to load up on aluminum, eating it and cooking with it and smearing it under your arms every day, it's your funeral.**

Back to soy~

(1)
Phytoestrogens
The endocrine disruptors in soy.
You've probably heard quite a bit about phytoestrogens. The plant compounds that mimic estrogen are touted by some as miracle agents that will prevent cancer, coronary heart disease and osteoporosis (just to name a few).
But there is a much darker side to these compounds which are phyto-endocrine disruptors by any other name. You'll be shocked to learn that these compounds may actually increase the risk of breast cancer and cause thyroid disease, and angry to discover that soy formulas manufacturers refuse to remove them from their products despite knowing that babies fed soy-formulas risk irreversible damage.

Let's talk a bit about the breast cancer and thyroid danger of soy.

8-CANCER CAUSER:
(2)
Soy phytoestrogens causing cancer? Hold on a minute, what about all the latest research that tells us that soy prevents cancer?! The key arguments in the case for soy as an anti-cancer foodstuff appear based on:
~Crude epidemiology. Mortality rates of certain types of hormone dependent cancers (such as breast and prostate) are lower in Asians. Asians eat lots o soy. Wow, if ~we eat lots of soy we will reduce our risk of cancer too!
Evidence that the soy isoflavone genistein displays anti-cancer properties in vitro. Wow, genistein inhibits the growth of, and kills, cancer cells; let's eat more today!
But long before these anti-cancer claims became common, researchers had noted that phytoestrogens such as genistein could greatly enhance the proliferation of cancer cells.
Confused? Well there's no need to be. it is not uncommon for hormonally active agents, such as the soy phytoestrogens, to act as both estrogens and anti-estrogens. In simple terms this means that they can act to stimulate or inhibit the growth of certain types of cells, such as those found in the human breast.
How do we know whether a compound will have a tendency to stimulate or inhibit cell growth? Well both natural hormones and hormonally active agents can work quite differently in people according primarily to dose and life stage. Contrast adults with children; premenopausal women with menopausal or post-menopausal women; women with breast cancer with women with no abnormal breast tissue growth.
Hence, although you may have heard lots about studies showing the anti-cancer effects of soy you may not have read about the following work:
Phytoestrogen concentration determines effects on DNA synthesis in Human breast cancer cells .
Effects of dietary menhaden oil, soy and cyclooxygenase inhibitor on human breast cancer cell growth
Short-term soy feeding increases breast cancer cell proliferation in pre-menopausal women with a history of benign or malignant breast disease....
in mice, the incidence of uterine adenocarcinoma was 35% for genistein and 31% for DES.

Is that clear? Not to me either, but it boils down to: SOY, leave it alone! Better safe than sorry.

In New Zealand the proclamatin that came from their ministry of health on SOY-BASED INFANT FORMULAS

The Cancer Council of Australia: Soy Cancer Warning
by Clair Weaver (Source: NEWS.com.au) January 14, 2007 12:00
CANCER patients are being warned to avoid foods rich in soy because they can accelerate the growth of tumours.
The Cancer Council NSW will issue guidelines today, warning about the dangers of high-soy diets and soy supplements for cancer patients and those people in remission from cancer.
At particular risk are people suffering from hormone-dependent cancers, including breast and prostate cancer - the two most common types of cancer in Australia.
Cancer survivors are also being urged to avoid high doses of soy, as they may be more vulnerable to a relapse.

THYROID PROBLEMS DUE TO COMSUMPTION OF SOY
9~Soy's phytoestrogens attack the thyroid. [quote]Phytoestrogens - Anti-thyroid agents
We're sick of hearing that there are no harmful effects of phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens disrupt thyroid function.
[/quote]

Also the soyonline source from New Zealand. Apparently that country is not run by big business' agendas.

(1)
Theodore Kay of the Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine noted in 1988 that 'thyroid enlargement in rats and humans, especially children and women, fed with soybeans has been known for half a century'.
In fact, thyroid problems associated with soy were also well known to bird-breeders, which is how Soy Online Service first became aware of the goitrogenicity of soy.
Well known, but that fact seemed to escape manufacturers of the first commercially available soy formulas. Those formulas were known to cause in goitre in infants and one can only wonder how many other infants were left hypothyroid or suffering from permanent thyroid damage by soy formulas.
The iodine levels in soy formulas were increased and instances of goitre in infants fed these products ceased. However, there appears to have been no attempt to isolate or remove the goitrogenic properties from soy formulas. This is of grave concern because, although elevated iodine levels would have helped to nullify the effects of the goitrogens, the goitrogens would still have been actively suppressing thyroid function in infants. Hence millions of babies (particularly in the United States where soy formula feeding is most common) have needlessly been exposed to goitrogenic agents; Soy Online Service believe that infants fed soy formulas unnecessarily risk abnormal thyroid function and a greater risk of thyroid disease in later life.
So just what are these goitrogenic agents? In 1997 research from the FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) showed that the darling of the soy industry, the isoflavone genistein, was a potent inhibitor of Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO); in fact genistein is a more powerful inhibitor of TPO than common anti-thyroid drugs! If genistein could inhibit TPO in vitro, it follows that it could result in an elevation of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), and a subsequent decrease in thyroxine (T3) in vitro; in other words consumption of the soy isoflavone genistein might result in hypothyroidism and goitre.
Recent research leaves little doubt that dietary isoflavones in soy have a profound effect on thyroid function in humans. A study by Japanese researchers concluded that intake of soy by healthy adults for a long duration caused enlargement of the thyroid and suppressed thyroid function. These researchers studied the effects of feeding 30 g of soybeans per day on thyroid function and found that after one month there was a significant increase in thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in a group of 20 adults (group I) but no change in thyroxine levels.

So my recommendation; if you want to get healthier, lose weight, exercise, eat healthy, real, fresh foods, especially raw ones, avoid all transfats and microwaved foods,

I eat a decent diet and avoid as many pollutants; and processed, gm, or non-foods as possible and therefore have fewer free radicals running around in MY body than most people I meet. CALCIUM; DO WE NEED MORE? HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH

Every where we go we are told we need to take calcium, more calcium and what kinds to take.

Actually if we take Calcium we need to take Magnesium along with it. In fact it should be in proportions of 10-4; Calcium to Magnesium.

Here are some sources of both:

(1)
Calcium Sources & Magnesium Sources:

Dairy products, tofu, almonds, Brazil nuts, salmon,Almonds, soybeans, wheat germ,
sardines, broccoli, collard greens, kale, cauliflower,seeds, wheat bran, millet, seafood, legumes,seaweed/kelp, hard water, molasses,dark green vegetables, fruit, hard water.

Of course this came from a site written by people who are unenlightened as to the dangers of soy and other genetically modified and highly processed foods. Soy may be great to help someone with the symptoms of menopause, but has been implicated in breast cancers and osteoporosis which is why you are taking calcium, isn't it? To help, not hurt your bones?

I'm not just saying this; it is true, soy contains phytoestrogens, and has high levels of phytic acid:

(2)
Soy Dangers Summarised

High levels of phytic acid in soy reduce assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Phytic acid in soy is not neutralized by ordinary preparation methods such as soaking, sprouting and long, slow cooking. High phytate diets have caused growth problems in children.
Trypsin inhibitors in soy interfere with protein digestion and may cause pancreatic orders. In test animals soy containing trypsin inhibitors caused stunted growth.
Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women.
Soy phytoestrogens are potent antithyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may cause thyroid cancer. In infants, consumption of soy formula has been linked to autoimmune thyroid disease.

Ingestion of soy has been linked to early puberty in girls, in fact, 15% of white girls and 50% of African American girls show signs of puberty before age 8. and there are large numbers of boys with delayed maturity and learning disabilities, linked to soy formulas. Soy is a powerful endocrine disruptor.

Ok, back to Calcium....

(1)
Low Levels / Deficiency - Symptoms and/or Risk Factors:

Calcium:
Insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, depression, fatigue, muscle / joint pains, muscle spasms / cramps, high stomach acid, osteoporosis, seizures, birth defects,
miscarriage, high blood pressure, irregular heart beat, cardiovascular disease, hemorrhagic stroke,aneurysms, PMS, dysmenorrhea (painful periods), rickets, higher risk for some cancers,
Magnesium:
Irregular heart beat, cardiovascular disease,insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, seizures,fatigue, muscle/joint pains, osteoporosis,high stomach acid, high blood pressure, PMS,sweating, dysmenorrhea, constipation, angina,depression, asthma, muscle spasms/cramps,migraine/headaches, depression,

On the reverse side:

(1)
High levels / Overdose / Toxicity / Negative Side Effects - Symptoms and/or Risk Factors:
Calcium:Arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, ischemic heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, low stomach acid, muscle / joint pains, depression,
fatigue, glaucoma, higher risk for several cancers, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, calcification, dry skin, constipation,
Magnesium:
Cardiovascular disease, muscle / joint pains,dry skin, low stomach acid, low blood pressure,depression, fatigue, higher risk for several cancers, diarrhea, osteoporosis, joint/spinal degeneration, dehydration, muscle spasms/cramps

I'm sure you'll notice that many of the overdose symptoms are the same as the low level reactions of both calcium and magnesium, as well as the symptoms for each in both categories.

So how much is the right amount?

This varies from person to person. A postmenopausal woman needs to supplement if she isn't getting three or more servings a day of high calcium foods [see above].a calcium carbonate is best taken with meals or a calcium citrate if taken between meals. About 1000 mg of Calcium and 400 mg of Magnesium is a good combination.

I know I need Calcium, but I don't like taking it because it causes me to be constipated. It also gives me heartburn.

I eat a decent diet and avoid as many pollutants; and processed, gm, or non-foods as possible and therefore have fewer free radicals running around in MY body than most people I meet. I'm losing weight and I feel so much better I know the CellPower™ cellpower~natural cures,natural alternative medicine,body rescue alkalizing,most alkalizing,alkalizing drops,body ph health<br />natural healing,cell health,oxygenate,cellpower,detoxify; has really CHANGED MY LIFE!

Yesterday I went to the doctor for my yearly physical. My blood pressure was high, my cholesterol was high, I'd gained some weight, and I didn't feel so hot. My doctor said eating right doesn't have to be complicated and it would solve my physical problems. He said just think in colors. Fill your plate with bright colors - greens, yellows, reds, etc. I went right home and ate an entire bowl of M&M's
And sure enough, I felt better immediately. I never knew eating right could be so easy

This went on for years. Finally the state built a bridge across the river right there by their houses. Ole's wife, Lena, says, "Now is your chance, Ole, vhy don't you go over dere and beat up dat Clarence like you said you volud?" Ole says, "OK, by yimmy I tink I vill do yust dat!"

Ole started for the bridge but he sees a sign on the bridge an he stops to read it, then he turns around and comes back home.

Lena asked,"vhy did you come back?" Ole said, "Lena, I tink I change my mind 'bout beatin' up dat Clarence, you know, dey put a sign on da bridge dat says "Clarence is 13 ft. 6 in." You know, he don't look near dat big vhen I yell at him from across da river"!!

Genetically modified foods

Did you know that Many other countries won't buy foods grown or processed in the US? Do you know why? It's because 7 out of 10 items you buy in our grocery stores are GM foods. They are in:
-Cooking oils
-Boxed cereals
-Grain products
-Frozen dinners
-Many corn products and soy products are GM.
-Mice don't like them,[does that tell you something?]
-GM crops when grown will,do and HAVE cross-pollinated with other crops.
-One Swiss biotech company mistakenly sold U.S. farmers an unapproved GM corn seed; tons of the experimental corn was sold between 2001-2004
-A GM corn, approved only for animal use, got into taco shells and chips and resulted in recalls, lawsuits and public uproar.
-There’s no system for tracking or reporting associated health problems caused by GM foods.
-Much of the rice crop has already been contaminated in the south US by GM crops.
-GM crops have cost the United States an estimated $12 billion in farm subsidies, lost sales and product recalls due to transgenic contamination
-Contrary to the claims of proponents, GM crops have not been proven safe.
-One chemical company was given permission to grow, yes, right out in the open, rice modified with HUMAN DNA!!![Does anyone remember where Ebola got it's start?[cannibalism] Why cows got mad cow disease? [again cannibalism, feeding cows bone meal,cows are herbivores they don't eat any meat!]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DANGERS OF GM FOODS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-increase instances of cancer
-lung damage
-dangers allergies
now I'm glossing over all the details, but I am providing all the links so you can read this for yourself.
Here are some of the companies that are producing GM foods and who are insisting they are good for you.
-Kraft Foods
-Monsanto
-DuPont- Why are chemical companies dabbling in foods?
-Phillip Morris- does anyone remember during the congressional hearings on the dangers of smoking how Tobacco companies kept insisting that they didn't know cigarettes were harmful or addictive?
-Monsanto
-DuPont
A report issued by the Department of Agriculture's own auditor stated that the department has failed to regulate field trials of genetically engineered crops adequately, thereby raising the risk of unintended environmental consequences.
Failed to Notice Violations
The report found that regulators failed to notice rules violations, inspect planting sites, or make sure that GM crops were destroyed following the field trials. In many cases, regulators had no idea where field trials were even as they granted permits for them.
AND NO ONE REALLY KNOWS, IN THE FACE OF SO FEW TESTS WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES WILL BE ON OUR COLLECTIVE HEALTH?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT CAN WE DO?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Avoid Processed Foods. As you learned, 75 percent of processed foods contain GM ingredients. There are many reasons why processed foods are not optimal for your health -- for instance they often contain trans fat, acrylamide and little nutritional value -- so avoiding them will not only help you to cut back on the amount of GM foods you are consuming, but will also boost your health.

2) Read produce and food labels. GM soybeans and corn make up the largest portion of genetically modified crops. When looking at a product label, if any ingredients such as corn flour and meal, dextrin, starch, soy sauce, margarine, and tofu (to name a few) are listed, there's a good chance it has come from GM corn or soy, unless it's listed as organic.

3) Buy organic produce. Buying organic is currently the best way to ensure that your food has not been genetically modified. By definition, food that is certified organic must be free from all GM organisms, produced without artificial pesticides and fertilizers and from an animal reared without the routine use of antibiotics, growth promoters or other drugs.

4) Look at Produce Stickers. Those little stickers on fruit and vegetables contain different PLU codes depending on whether the fruit was conventionally grown, organically grown or genetically modified. The PLU code for conventionally grown fruit consists of four numbers, organically grown fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number nine, and GM fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number eight.

`````````````````````````````````````
''We simply do not have enough reliable scientific evidence on their safety to be able to make a valid decision as to whether there are potential health effects or not.''
Charles Saunders, chairman of the British Medical Association's public health committee
*******************
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT, have you heard that before?
So far it has been the watchdog Scientists and [MD] Doctors who study Natural medicines who have been warning us about GM foods, but they were the ones who taught conventional medicine about the dangers of Cholesterol years ago.
I remember reading a short story about a group of teenagers at a future time in a special school, It was told from the viewpoint of one of the girls. Her Diary was the story. She'd tell us each day what they did at the school and how they were taught. Every single day she would talk about the film they saw on training dolphins. Then they had a film on how the food supply was safe to eat. The School children were fed something called foodah, a genetically modified food source. Different entries described food riots the teens witnessed; confused as to why people were fussing about not having enough to eat when there was a plentiful supply of foodah, and didn't the film they saw today explain it was very healthy, They also got to see a film about training dolphins.
Each day's entries were eerily similar, underlining the point that what one eats determines not just their health but also their ability to think. Ok, this was science Fiction but it mirrors our modern society.
