WHAT'S SO EXCITING ABOUT MSG?

1)
Aspartame (often called Nutrasweet) is a controversial food additive used to sweeten "diet" products artificially. The product has a long history of causing severe health problems. Along with MSG (monosodium glutamate) and MSG-like food additives, aspartame is in a class of compounds known as "excitotoxins". These excitotoxins basically excite brain cells until they die. In other words, each serving of MSG or aspartame has the potential to cause a little bit of brain damage, which becomes cumulative and could eventually lead to Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's, or other neurological diseases.

Aspartame is especially controversial, as laboratory tests BEFORE it was approved showed that it caused brain lesions, cancer, death, and a number of other serious health problems. The substance was originally rejected by the FDA, but later Donald Rumsfeld (the current Secretary of Defense) went to work for Searle with the goal of having aspartame approved. Since its approval, brain cancer rates have risen, although a portion of those cases may be due to the explosion of cell phone usage at around the same time. Aspartame is the substance the FDA receives most complaints about, with a range of known side effects including birth defects, cancer, and death. I was appalled one day while listening to an NPR radio talk show host, an MD, tell a pregnant woman that it was OK to drink aspartame. This was after her family doctor had told her to avoid aspartame/Nutrasweet while pregnant. He mentioned that a lot of internet web sites claimed aspartame was bad, but that he didn't "think" there were any problems.

For those who think that aspartame, MSG, and other excitotoxins are only exposed on the internet by conspiracy theorists, I recommend a book by a respected neurosurgeon: Excitotoxins; The Taste that Kills by Russell Blaylock, MD. Blaylock's book is excellent, not only explaining basic brain physiology and how excitotoxins destroy brain cells, but also how one can protect oneself from some of the damage by excitotoxins. He also informs the reader of "code words" manufacturers use on food labels that really mean MSG or MSG-like compounds.

There is a nice article in Webworker.com/Neurodegeneration, Neurodevelopment, Migraines, & Seizuresconcerning the dangers of excitotoxins, a must read. It talks about how they discovered MSG and what it did to mice in the second generation, they were shorter and fatter, it causes: neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and olivopontocerebellar degeneration.
NOTE THE OTHER NAMES FOR MSG THE GREEDY FOOD MANUFACTURERS ARE USING TO KEEP YOU EATING THEIR JUNK!

Aspartame, aspartate, Cysteine, cysteic acid, Monosodium Glutamate (the following is a list of hidden sources of MSG )
Additives that Always Contain MSG:

Monosodium Glutamate
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Hydrolyzed Protein
Hydrolyzed Plant Extract
Plant Protein Extract
Sodium Caseinate
Yeast Extract
Texturized Protein
Autolyzed Yeast
Hydrolyzed Oat Flour
Calcium Caseinate
Additives that Frequently Contain MSG:

Malt Extract
Bouillon
Stock
Natural Flavoring Seasonings
Malt Flavoring
Broth Flavoring
Natural Beef or Chicken Flavoring
Spices

Foods containing hidden MSG include sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, textured protein, autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed flour, malt extract, malt flavoring, bouillon, broth, stock, "flavoring," "natural flavoring," "seasoning," "spices," carrageenan, enzymes, soy protein concentrate, soy protein isolate and whey protein concentrate. Various types of hydrolyzed protein are actually the precursors for MSG and are possibly more toxic.

The food industry has mounted enormous resistance to full labeling of MSG because it needs it to give flavor to ersatz imitation products. Virtually all canned and dehydrated soups, sauce mixes, frozen prepared dinners and canned condiments contain MSG or hydrolyzed vegetable protein to give them flavor. Otherwise these products would be bland and inedible.

I strongly suggest you read the full articles from which I took snippets to give you a broad Idea of the problem. This is just an overview.

As for me, I avoid restaurants, prepackaged foods, GM foods and fast foods. I amm getting better every day and I'm doing it with:cell power

A nun was sitting at the airport, waiting for her flight to Chicago. She looked over in the corner and saw one of those weight machines that tells your fortune and thought to herself, "I'll give it a try and see what it tells me."

She went over to the machine, stepped up on the scale and put her nickel in. Out came a card that read, "You are a nun, you weigh 128 lbs, and you are going to Chicago."

The nun sat back down. She told herself that the machine probably gave the same card to everyone. The more ! she thought about it, the more curious she got, so she decided to try it again. She went back to the machine and again put her nickel in, and out came a card that read, "You are a nun, you weigh 128 pounds, you are going to Chicago and you are going to play a fiddle."

The nun said to herself, "I know that is wrong -- I have never played a musical instrument even once in my life." She sat back down. From out of nowhere a cowboy came over and sat down, putting his fiddle case in the seat between them. Without thinking, she opened the cowboy's case, took out the fiddle, and started playing beautiful music. Surprised at what she had done, she looked over at the machine, thinking, "This is incredible -- I've got to try this again."

Back to the machine she went, put in another nickel, and another card came out. It read, "You are a nun, you weigh 128 pounds, you are going to Chicago and you are going to break wind." Now she knew the machine was wrong, as she thought to herself, "I've never farted in public a single time in my life."

However, getting down off the machine she slipped, and as she was straining to keep herself from falling, -- sure enough -- she pooted out loud. Absolutely stunned and embarrassed, she sat back down and looked at the machine. She thought to herself, "I have GOT to try this again."

She went back to the machine, put in another nickel, and another card came out. It read, "You are a nun, you weigh 128 lbs, you have fiddled and farted around and have missed your flight to Chicago.

There was a peddler who sold wool blankets and sweaters. Every day, he would pull his cart a few miles from his home to the village marketplace. He passed a small lake that was on the property of a local banker. On a particularly cold winter’s day, he noticed that the lake was frozen over. He realized that he could shave a mile or so off his trip by pulling his cart over the lake. When he got halfway across the lake, the banker raced from his house, yelling, “Nobody’s going to pull the wool over my ice!”

I wish you and yours the very best of health and I remember today is the first day of the rest of your life, make it count, do something healthy for you!
